Gold is trading at $1,750 to begin the week, unchanged from Friday’s close while silver is up over 1% today, trading at $22.70, but finding resistances as it tries to near the $23 threshold. Durable goods orders rose 1.8% in August, which tripled estimates and suggests the economy is heading in the right direction at a faster rate than expected. Stocks are mixed today as Thursday’s government shutdown deadline looms and a polarized Congress shows no signs of a compromise to avoid it. The Dow is up over 100 points heading into the final minutes of trading and the S&P and Nasdaq are down 0.1% and 0.4%.
